Objectives

The Life Rupis project's main objective is the reinforcement of Egyptian Vulture and Bonelli’s Eagle populations in the transboundary Douro River through reduction of mortality and improvement of breeding success. The Black Vulture and the Red Kite will also benefit from the project actions. And what do these four birds have in common? They are threatenedin the Iberian Peninsula.

In order to improve the conservation status of the target-species, this project aims to:
  • Reduce nest disturbance and adult mortality;
  • Increase food availability;
  • Improve habitat quality by implementing good farming and livestock practices;
  • Increase the productivity of Egyptian Vulture pairs: at least one fledgling per pair every year.
  • Create and disseminate the knowledge and experience acquired through the application of good practices;
  • Valorisation and promotion of the territory, as well as raising awareness of local populations and the general public.
